Our Story
SOBEREYE was founded on a single conviction: that the neurological condition of a worker at the moment work begins is measurable — and that measuring it changes everything.
We applied the science. We filed the patents. We validated the technology independently. And we built OPTOVERA — the platform that brings that science to the point of work, before every shift, in safety-critical operations across more than ten countries.
That conviction became a technology. That technology is saving lives.
The Science
The Pupillary Light Reflex, the pupil's reaction to changes in light conditions, is one of the most studied physiological signals in neuroscience. Its relationship to neurological condition — fatigue, sleep deprivation, medications, stress — is well established, extensively validated, and impossible to fake.
We built the technology to bring that science outside clinical settings. A proprietary opaque enclosure combining a configured smartphone with precisely controlled light, making reliable PLR measurement possible in a mine, on a loading dock, at the start of a shift. We filed for patents, founded the company, and collaborated with researchers at the University of Naples Federico II to independently validate the approach. The resulting peer-reviewed study confirmed that our smartphone-based methodology captures PLR with sufficient accuracy for reliable pupillometry — and that the approach is safe per international ophthalmic instrument standards ISO 15004-2.2 and ANSI Z80.36.
Our first MVP launched in March 2018. First purchase order followed within months.

What We Believe
Measurement beats estimation. Every system that relies on schedules, declarations, or observations is estimating the worker's condition. Objective measurement is not a feature — it is the minimum standard for a safety system that deserves to be trusted.
The most important moment in a shift is before it begins. Once a worker is operating heavy machinery or driving a loaded vehicle, the window for prevention has closed. Everything we build is designed for the moment before work begins.
Science that cannot reach the field cannot save lives. The relationship between pupillary response and neurological condition was established in laboratories decades before SOBEREYE brought it to the point of work. Closing the gap between scientific knowledge and operational application is the reason we exist.
Privacy and safety are not in tension. Sensitive physiological data belongs to the worker and the organization — not to us. Privacy by design is not a compliance position. It is an ethical one.
How We Work
Patent-protected IP. Our core measurement methodology is protected by US Patents 9,888,845 and 10,070,787 — covering the application of pupillary response analysis to workforce condition assessment at the point of work.
Peer-reviewed science. Our smartphone-based pupillometry methodology has been independently validated in a peer-reviewed study confirming measurement accuracy and eye safety per international ophthalmic instrument standards ISO 15004-2.2 and ANSI Z80.36.
ISO 27001 Certified. SOBEREYE operates under ISO/IEC 27001 certification — ensuring that data generated across every OPTOVERA deployment is handled with the highest standards of security and privacy.
